Mandalay is the economic city next Yangon, and is a historical city in Myanmar. There are also many pagodas (temples), and there are lots of highlights. It takes at least 2 days to go around the good view points of Mandalay. If possible, you can enjoy it so much, you need over 3 days.
The way of sightseeing, if you were alone hire a motorcycle taxi for a day, or borrow a rental motorbike, you can turn around efficiently. If it were a group, I think it would be better to borrow a taxi for a day.
Depending on the course to go around, the bike taxi is around 20,000 to 30,000 kya. Depending on the rate, it will be about US $ 20. The rental bike is US $ 8 for manual, and automatic is US$10. Mandalay is largely divided into three areas. It will be Mandalay city area, Inn Wa and Sagaing area and Min Kun area. The Min Kun district is very hard to go, so if you use a ferry, you can get to Min Kun easily, but you have to hire a biketaxi or horse carriage. About a rental motorbike, hiring a bike taxi from Mandalay or a car, you have to go to a bridge in Inn Wa Sagaing area, and go through, so that it takes a time from 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours just one way.
In addition, we can go to Inn Wa Sagaring by ferry. I have forgotten the exact price, but surely it will be around 10,000 to 15,000 kya. Please check the reception of your hotel and guesthouse.

From Yangon to Mandalay, you can go by train, but usually it is mostly travel by bus in Myanmar. Myanmar trains are not good service. The train is slow speed and not comfort. shaking and bumping. Recently, it seems to be maintained little by little, but when coming from Yangon to Mawlamyine this year (April 2018), the ride feeling was better than before, but I am not sure from Yangon to Mandalay is comfort or not.
A few years ago (around 2015), when I got a train between Yangon – Mawlamyine, I was shaked and my butt floated. At that time it was a night train, so I could hardly sleep.
Also, it takes 14 hours from Yangon to Mandalay, it takes a very long time, so the bus takes less time. Basically, we recommend moving the bus.
However, I think that some people would like to take the train of Myanmar, we recommend to go to Gok Hteik bridge and Hsipaw. The Gok Hteik Bridge is the second highest iron bridge in the world. You can take this train from Mandalay
